การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ วัตถุประสงค์ศึกษาพลวัตข้าโอกาสพระธาตุพนมบริเวณชุมชนสองฝั่งโขงในบริบทของความสัมพันธ์ระหว่าง “คน” กับ “สังคม” ใช้แนวคิดอำนาจกับสิทธิอำนาจและแนวคิดโครงสร้างความสัมพันธ์ทางสังคมเป็นกรอบในการวิเคราะห์ ผลการวิจัยพบว่าการเปลี่ยนผ่านอำนาจทางการเมืองส่งผลต่อความสัมพันธ์เชิงอำนาจระหว่างกลุ่มผู้ปกครอง พระสงฆ์ กลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งข้าโอกาสพระธาตุพนม มีการสร้างความหมายใหม่ ในฐานะกลุ่มตระกูลผู้สืบทอดบทบาท“ข้าโอกาส” เปลี่ยนจากแรงงานรับใช้วัดเป็นผู้นำประกอบประเพณี พิธีกรรมเชื่อมโยงวิถีปฏิบัติเดิมสมัยล้านช้าง เช่น การเสียค่าหัว และถวายข้าวพิชภาค นอกจากนี้ยังสร้างความสัมพันธ์ทางสังคมกับกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ในชุมชนกลายเป็นเครือข่ายทางสังคม “ข้าโอกาสพระธาตุพนม” ส่วนพื้นที่วิจัยในสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาว แม้ว่าการรับรู้เกี่ยวกับข้าโอกาสเป็นเพียงตำนานเล่าขานเท่านั้น ผู้คนยังมีความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับ “พระธาตุพนม” สังเกตได้จากการเดินทางมาร่วมงานบุญประเพณีพระธาตุพนมพร้อมกับจัดงานประเพณีบุญพระธาตุในท้องถิ่นแสดงถึงเครือข่ายทางสังคมของปัจเจกชนที่มีพลังอยู่ในวิถีชีวิตผู้คนในชุมชนสองฝั่งโขง

The research was qualitative research methods which aimed to study the relationship between "people" with "society".By using the concept of power and authority and the structure of social relations as a framework studies. The results showed that the transition of political power affects the power relations between the government,the monk and the ethnic group.In particular, khaokasaPhraThatPhanom has a new meaning as the successor to the family group.They had changed from the temple serf to the ritual successor related to Phra That Phanom and linked the social relation with other ethnic groups in the community to play a role in the inherited tradition. The significance negotiation back to social practice in Lan Xang Period such as Sia kha Hua and khoaPeachapak rituals. As for in Laos PDR,the recognition about khaokasa in community is only a legend.However, Laos people still belive on Phra That Phanom,by the observation most of them crossed the river to pay homage the stupa and organized this festival in their village. This phenomenon showed the continuities of social network of individuals in the community on both sides of the Mekong basin.
