Abstract :
This study explores the relationship between language and the identities of Mia Farang in 19 Thai songs using Critical Discourse Analysis approach. Linguistic devices employed to construct the identities of Mia Farang in these songs were lexical choice, presupposition, claiming, rhetorical questions, metaphor, Irony and interdiscursivity. These linguistic devices constructed the following identities of Mia Farang: 1) having a happy married life with a western spouse (2) having an unsuccessful married life with a Thai spouse (3) having an unsuccessful married life with a western spouse (4) being a prostitute (5) poor living conditions (6) being looked down upon by other people (7) being originally from the Northeast of Thailand (8) having tan skin (9) being uneducated (10) being materialistic (11) not being a good mother (12) expressing overt sexuality (13) poorly dress (14) being an old woman (15) having tiny body (16) being moody (17) being a labor (18) being grateful
