The Comical Northern Thai Country Music Literature: Language Atyles and Strategies of Creating Humors

  The article aimed at studying the language styles used in the comical northern Thai country music, the strategies of creating humors in the comical northern Thai country music, and the roles of the comical northern Thai country music in passing on and linking with the identity of Lanna Community. The 26 comical northern Thai country songs from 4 artists, namely, Eddy Talad Taek, Witoon Jaiprom, Kaew Lodfa, and Hernfa Naluam were studied. The conceptual frameworks on the humorous song literature, the strategies of creating humors, theory of humors, theory of comedy, and related literature on sounds and words were studied. 
       The study revealed that there were 10 styles of words used in the comical northern Thai country music, i.e., written words imitating spoken sounds, nouns, verbs, words for telling the time, words for telling quantity, interjections, lyrics, supplementary words, omitted words and abbreviations, and foreign words.The strategies in creating humors found in the comical northern Thai country music were mimicry, sarcasm, use of sibilant sounds and words, use of words implying genders, exaggeration, climax creation or turning over the expectation, and the singer's weak points. In analyzing the contents creating humors in the comical northern Thai country music, it was found that the songs were related to love, politics and governance, economy, society and culture, and gender. It was also found that the comical northern Thai country music and singers had roles in passing on and connecting the identity of the Lanna Community through contents and music tunes. The roles in linking the identity and culture of the community were found in both communicating and connecting the identity of the Lanna Community, reflecting the ways of life, society, and culture, and linking the language identity of Lanna Community.
